Quit These 2 Things To Reduce Negativity In Your Life

After today you know how drama is being used to keep your attention and how you can reduce negativity in your life fairly easily. Keep an open mind and read this until the end because this post might upset you or even stir up some anger.

The negativity that you and I allow into our daily lives is ridiculous.

And the worst part? Most of us don’t even realize what we’re exposing ourselves to.

It’s time to gain some awareness and learn how you can reduce negativity in your life so you can take control back over your life.

You aren’t a puppet, are you?

Massive Source Of Negativity

The last 2 years I’ve been traveling through Australia. I had chosen not to tap into the news and watch any regular television.

I now realize that was a very empowering decision.

Since I’m back, I’ve heard the news on the radio several times. And when I do hear the news, it doesn’t feel like I’ve been gone for 2 years…

It’s exactly the same news as I’ve been hearing for years!

Nothing changed. Yet, whenever I listen to the news, I feel like the world is about to collapse.

Then I saw this reality show on television. I used to love these and watched them on a day to day basis.

Now, I can’t stand them.

Only after my 2-year drama break, I realized that the news and reality tv is absolutely depressing.

How could I’ve allowed myself to be exposed to all the drama?

Even worse, why did I tap into it on purpose?

Honest Self Reflection

It’s hard to admit to myself but I believe that I watched those people feel better about myself.

A short moment of not having to think about the stuff I didn’t want to deal with in my own life.

A validation to myself that there were other people that deal with similar or worse problems.

It’s the constant stimulation that triggers joy because it relieved me from the pain in my own life.

Instead of fixing my own problems, why not sit back comfortably and watch other people struggle with theirs?

This was my form of meditation but it only worked for the short-term.

Unnecessary Negativity

It hit me once I got back to the Netherlands, that the exposure to the news and reality shows didn’t benefit me.

And it doesn’t benefit you either.

The news nor reality shows aren’t created to empower you. They’re created for entertainment and keeping your attention for as long as possible.

And they’ve done a pretty good job at that.

Improve The Quality Of Your Life

It’s things like the television and the radio that is bombarding us with drama. They understand that humans are attracted to this.

Because let’s face it, aren’t we all a little bit addicted to some drama in our lives?

The problem is when you keep exposing yourself to unnecessary drama repeatedly.

Radio and television no longer show what is in your best interest but rather what gives the highest amount of views. The news is so incredibly negative today and reality shows are staged to enhance more negativity.

Because negativity sells. We’re survival machines and we need to know all the bad things happening so that we can protect ourselves.

Ask Yourself The Hard Question

Do you believe that the news and television are beneficial in your life?

I bet you’ll tell yourself: of course!

And you can probably come up with all sorts of reasons for why you have to watch television.

But the truth is, you don’t. It’s just easier to stick with the same routine.

What else are you going to do when you abandon the television? What are you going to listen to if it isn’t for the radio?

Not All Drama Is Equal

What I’m not telling you is that you should avoid all sorts of drama. That’s just stupid.

You’re living a life where positive and negative events happen and yes, you’ll have drama in your life.

What I’m saying is that there is some unnecessary drama that you might not want to expose yourself to any longer.

Don’t you have enough drama already? I bet you do. And it’s easy to reduce negativity if you make some small changes.

Do this for the sake of your own health, developing an empowering mindset, and eventually, creating the life you want to live.

Reduce Negativity & Empower Yourself

We can do it

I truly believe that if you change your experiences, you see some major changes in your life.

After a while, you may not realize the benefits that come forth from this simple change.

So if you don’t watch television or listen to the radio, what to do?

Quit Radio

Don’t get me wrong, the radio in and on itself isn’t the bad thing. It’s the negativity such as the news that’s bombarding you with negativity after your favorite song.

Who wants that?

Besides, do you want to wait for your favorite song? Of course not.

I’m sure most of you have access to some sort of music player. There are so many places:

  • Spotify
  • Soundcloud
  • YouTube (Red)
  • Google Play Music
  • Apple Music

If you’re serious about creating a better life, you can also switch music for audio books.

Audiobooks are great because you can pick up more and more valuable information. This change alone can improve your life drastically.

Quit Television

Sell it. It’s that easy.

You don’t want to sell it because you can see your favorite series on there, I get it.

If you don’t want to sell it, just leave it off. If you normally watch television in the evening, try something different.

Pick up a new hobby, read a book or start a side business.

Maybe you’ve already got kids? Spend some extra time with them. Do something fun with your partner or go for a walk. Get yourself a dog or walk your neighbor’s dog (if they allow you to do so, but surely they want to watch some television).

There are so many things you can do that empower you. Pursue those.

Here are some empowering ideas:

  • Go to a networking event
  • Read a book (that brings you closer to your goals)
  • Spend time & connect with your partner
  • Spend time & connect with your children
  • Go for a walk
  • Practice meditation
  • Sign up for a new sport
  • Start your own business

I Challenge You!

To take a full-on unnecessary drama break for 30 days and see for yourself how you can reduce negativity.

This includes no television, no news, and no drama series or movies.

I understand that you might have to give up your favorite series for a while but I want you to do this to see what it does with you and your mindset.

If you really want to watch your series, finish that first, then take on the challenge.

If you want to watch a movie, choose something positive like a comedy or an empowering documentary.

For 30 days, do things differently. Consciously choose to reduce negativity and see what happens.

Use this spare time to start something new. To start something that empowers you and makes you feel great AFTER you’ve done it, not only in the moment of doing it.

Key Points

I accidentally did reduce negativity in my own life. Only after coming back to the Netherlands, I was being exposed to the news on the radio, which btw, has not changed a single bit over the last 2 years.

In fact, it’s exactly the same news. How crazy is that?

It still feels like the world is coming to an end. While in fact, we’ve booked much progression in comparison to 2 years ago.

Also, shows are designed in a way to keep your attention.

The media understands that you love to see drama and they happily give it to you.

But ask yourself the hard question: does it serve you?

How do you feel after watching those shows? Are you using it to escape your own life or to make you feel better?

I certainly did. It’s only now that I realize that it did quite the opposite.

I traded short-term happiness for long-term fulfillment and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes.

Besides, it’s pretty easy to reduce negativity in your life. That’s why I want to challenge you to go for 30 days without news, television, and drama series or movies. Do this experiment for yourself, then decide.
